80 CHARLOTTE STREET STAIRCASE

A feature staircase is proposed in the two bays between floors 5 to 8 by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for the the fit-out of their new tenancy at 80 Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, London. There is a desire for exposed soffits so the support steelwork is likely to be on view, and so a neat elegant solution isrequired which minimises the visual impact
The stair forms an elongated spiral shape between the landings, with solid deep stringers on eachside. The stringers extend above the steps to form the hand rail as well as dropping below themto allow the varying step soffit to be masked. There is a desire for sculpted handrails set into the stringers.
The stair is to be constructed from steel, to limit weight. The steelwork is to be clad for aesthetic purposes. An allowance is to be made with a 10mm thick porcelain tile finish to the treads.
